Alex Caceres Wiki

Known by many as 'Bruce Leroy,' TUF 12 veteran Alex Caceres is known for his wild personality and ever improving game. Caceres fought on 'The Ultimate Fighter' as a lightweight on Team GSP. Before his time on 'TUF,' Caceres gained notoriety fighting in underground street fights. Caceres would win two fights on TUF 12 by submission, before losing a decision to eventual finalist Michael Johnson.

His first fight in the UFC was at featherweight, where he would fight grappling ace Mackens Semerzier. He lost this fight, and the one after it to Jimy Hettes by rear naked choke, which prompted his move to bantamweight. There, he would prove his worth in a bout with former WEC champ Cole Escovedo. He showed off his flashy and inventive striking, and even came close to finishing a triangle on Escovedo (Escovedo is known for having a good triangle choke). Following this big win, he next faced scrappy striker Edwin Figueroa. He was docked two points by referee Herb Dean for repeated kicks to the groin of Figueroa. Despite the fouls, and eating a big head kick from 'El Feroz,' one judge ruled the bout in Caceres' favor, due to his takedowns and dominant grappling. He would lose the fight via split decision, but rebounded to submit veteran Damacio Page with a second round triangle choke.

A member of the Young Tigers fight team, the Miami native is known for being flashy and creative inside the octagon, and is often seen smiling during his bouts. He seems to have found a home at 135 pounds, and remains a young prospect inside the UFC's bantamweight division at the age of 24. His next fight was at UFC on fuel TV 8 vs Korea's Kyung Ho Kang and he would win by Split Decision. However following he would also be suspended from the UFC after testing positive for marijuana metabolites. He would return to the octagon to win a split decision over Roland Delorme.

In his next fight Caceres would face new prospect Sergio Pettis, brother of the Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis. It was a great back and forth fight that Pettis may have been leading on the scorecard going into the third round. However Caceres was able to take his back and sink in the rear naked choke earning himself the Submission of the Night as well as Fight of the Night honors. It would also be Sergio's first loss.

Since his career highlighting fight against Sergio Pettis, Caceres has hit a rough patch in his career, dropping 3 in a row. The first of these loses came at UFC 175: Weidman vs. Machida, when he faced longtime Zuffa veteran and so far his biggest-named opponent - Urijah Faber. Lasting longer than many anticipated, Caceres was caught in a RNC at 1:09 in Round 3.

Hoping to quickly bounce back, Caceres took a fight against Japanese newcomer Masanori Kanehara, in Kanehara's home country of Japan, at UFC Fight Night 52: Hunt vs. Nelson. In an uneventful fight, it went to the judges who awarded Kanehara the victory via UD.

In Caracres' most recent fight and a must-win fight, he faced Francisco Rivera Jr., who too was going into the fight after losing his past two fights. They met at UFC Fight Night 68: Boetsch vs. Henderson. Caceres was dropped early into the fight and Rivera kept the pressure up; with Caraceres not defending himself, referee Dan Miragliotta was forced to stop the fight at 0:21 in Round 1. With this poor showing and dropping to a 5-6 in the UFC, Caceres' future in the UFC is uncertain.
