I'm seeing 156.25?  He only missed by .25, not defending him, but it isn't 4 lbs or 1.25 lbs

156.25 is missing by 1.25. There is a 1 lbs allowance but the target is 155.

Well it might seem a bit pedantic but you frequently see arguments like "come on he was only .25 over" when someone weighs in at 156.25. But that's why the allowance is there, so that you can miss by up to 1 lbs. The fact that fighters often purposefully use the full allowance rather than shoot for the actual target weight doesn't change that fact.

I disagree completely, fighters are allowed to weigh in 1 lb over and they work to this.  someone who weighs in at 156 on their first attempt for a non-championship fight is never referred to as 'missing weight by 1 pound', just like someone who weighs 156.25 is never said to have missed by 1.25

I hear it said both ways quite frequently. If 156.25 is considered barely a weight miss then something is wrong imo. The 1 lbs allowance isn't meant to be the actual weight, it's there precisely so that you don't get penalized for barely missing the target weight. Again fighters can and do try to take advantage but they shouldn't get both the benefit of getting to take advantage while also get reduced blame if it fails when "it was only a .25 miss". Can't have it both ways.
